Jan AP Kaczmarek passed away at 71

Polish composer Jan AP Kaczmarek passed away at the age of 71. He won an Oscar for the stunning music he wrote for the movie Finding Neverland. Kaczmarek had been ill for a very long time and sadly lost that battle on May 21, 2024.

We wish his inner circle all the best.

  1. Jan Andrzej Paweł Kaczmarek, who won an Oscar, was one of the very rare renowned committed composers.
He was a caring and approachable person, and supported many good causes. Jan kindly donated a piece of his original music ‘Caelestis Impromptu’ to an association based in France ‘Caelestis’ to help us raise funds for WWF at an international: level https://www.caelestis-bio.com/japk-music.html. He also dedicated a label of a Grand Cru Classé (Château Fonroque, Saint-Emilion) biodynamic wine brand ‘Caelestis’ (‘Pure wine brings great inspiration to my music’) which we launched together at the ‘Culinary Cinema’ of his ‘Transatlantyk’ Festival in 2012 in Poland https://www.caelestis-bio.com/films.html

Sharing our values, he found the novel international bilingual English-French ecology-oriented 3ec-TV channel ambitious and inspiring, and was prepared to contribute with his music: https://3ec-tv.com.

Jan A.P. Kaczmarek was the founder and director of the international film and music festival ‘Transatlantyk’, held yearly from 2011 first in Poznań and later in Łódź and Katowice. The Festival originality came with the prestigious Instant Composition Contest (based on the idea of improvisation created synchronously to the image on a screen), the ‘green’ carpet, Glocal Hero Award and Eco Film section and Culinary Cinema.

His legacy should live on. I hope that his ‘Transatlantyk’ Festival will continue. Furthermore, since Kaczmarek had one of the most unusual backgrounds of any film composers of his time, his biography deserves to be brought to the screen.
