World Soundtrack Awards 2018 – Winners Announced

WSAEvery year the World Soundtracks Awards are being held in Ghent, Belgium during “Film Fest Gent”. These awards are considered very important in the film music industry. The award ceremony was held October 17, 2018, during a concert with Carter Burwell as the main guest.

Below is the overview of nominees of all the awards, where the winners are marked in bold.

Film Composer of the Year 2018

  • Carter Burwell:  Goodbye Christopher Robin, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
  • Alexandre Desplat: Endangered Species, Isle of Dogs, Suburbicon, The Shape of Water, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
  • Jonny Greenwood: Phantom Thread
  • Jóhann Jóhannsson:  Mandy, Mary Magdalene(co-composed with Hildur Guðnadóttir), The Mercy
  • John Williams: Star Wars: The Last Jedi, The Post

After his untimely death earlier this year, the late Jóhann Jóhannsson posthumously receives the Award for Best Film Composer of the Year. This marks his second WSAward, after winning this same award back in 2017 as well.
